Design Thinking - How to Innovate Efficiently

How often do we really think about the needs of others?
Design Thinking is more than just a method – it is a mindset that combines empathy and creativity. We experienced exactly that in an inspiring workshop of Simon Schmidli that challenged us while also fostering deeper connections.
Our task? To design a take-away box. But not just any box – it had to be tailored to a person we barely knew. At first, we designed a lunchbox purely from our own imagination, without knowing anything about the person. Only afterwards did we engage in in-depth conversations to discover their preferences, daily routines, and challenges. These new insights influenced the adaptation of our initial designs.
Pens out, ideas flowed! We revised our designs, adding smart compartments, sustainable materials, or reminder functions. Because true Design Thinking means being flexible and constantly improving. "We then brought our concept to life with AI, unlocking fascinating insights that pushed the boundaries of innovation and creativity."
In the end, it was more than just a creative exercise – it was a lesson in empathy. We learned how important it is to truly listen, shift perspectives, and refine solutions iteratively.
Maybe we should all think more like designers: be curious, question assumptions, and optimize – not just for products but also for our relationships.
