Urban Resilience

Imagine a city that not only deals with but also grows stronger in response to natural disasters, climate change, power outages, or population increases. By improving infrastructure and using smart technologies, cities can become better equipped to handle and recover from crises. The goal is to create a safer and more resilient environment for everyone.  

Take New York City's East Side Coastal Resiliency initiative, for example. Its aim is to protect neighbourhoods from flooding and sea-level rise through advanced infrastructure and weather monitoring systems. However, achieving urban resilience is a complex task. Integrating modern solutions with older infrastructure can be challenging and expensive. Additionally, it is important to ensure these improvements benefit all communities, not just the more affluent ones.

As we think about the future of urban resilience, it's crucial to evaluate whether our current strategies are effectively addressing these challenges or if we are only beginning to understand the complexities involved.
