An integral part of the International Studnet Projects is to embed students in a real-life setting. For this reason, the connectUS 2020 project group went on company visits today. In the morning, we visited Google’s famous office facilities in Zurich. After the guided tour and the impressive insights into the generous working environment, the connectUS delegates learned about the design of everyday things at the technology company from Javier Bargas, who holds a PhD in Cognitive Psychology and is leading the UX research for the Google cloud platform.
On the one hand he talked about the usability concept, the fact that the designers need to adapt to the user mental model and the diverse
personas. On the other hand, Javier provided us with some examples to illustrate that there is still room for improvements for example when it comes to translation on online platforms.
