We had this day, actually our second last day in New York, two different visits and a bit of leisure time.
Consulate General of Switzerland
In the morning, we met André Schaller, the Ambassador, at the Consulate General of Switzerland in New York City. First of all, he told us some facts about the relationship between the USA and Switzerland. One interesting fact is that US-companies have created about 100’000 jobs in Switzerland. On the other hand, Swiss-companies have created approximately 500’000 jobs in the USA.
Furthermore, he spoke about the image of Switzerland in the USA. The Swiss are at the six place at the moment. In natural beauty, Switzerland is actually on the second place.
Lastly, André Schaller presented the tasks of the Consulate. The most important one is the support of Swiss citizen. Another task is to promote Switzerland in the USA in several fields.
We were warmly welcomed by Mollie Kinsman at Brooklyn Grange. This company was founded in 2010 and uses rooftops as a breeding ground. Their core business is agriculture. But they also do some consulting work like designs for a garden. At the moment, they have two buildings which they use and one more is in planning.
Due to this usage of rooftops, the environment can profit from a better air, local food and biodiversity. The customers of Brooklyn Grange are 2/3 local restaurants and 1/3 private customers.
